Community Outreach: COVID-19 and Beyond
While outreach and education have always been passions, COVID-19 has completely anchored my dedication to stronger community involvement, both locally and on a larger scale. From organizing donations to local hospitals, helping build hospital gowns, to teaching science and technology classes over Zoom: COVID does not have to been seen as this restrictive thresh hold. "Necessity is the mother of invention" after all. Through safe diligent action we can continue to build and support our greater communities even through this crisis.
Open Door Studio
Open Door Studio is a day program that allows individuals with special needs to have the space and resources to create different forms of art work. From pottery to beading, quilting to painting, artists are given a safe space to be creative and express themselves.
In the summer of 2020 I spent a week working with them to try and improve their storage and accessibility of materials for their artists. We installed peg boards, fabric storage and even a 6' high Lazy susan, to allow as much accessibility as possible.

The Broadway Relief Project was one of the first Broadway initiatives to sprout out of the entertainment industry shutting down. Entertainment workers from across the greater NYC area came together to assist in the fabrication and assembly of hospital gowns and facemasks for hospitals across the area.
Donation Drop-offs: Helping Out of Town Nurses Get What They Need
Through the grapevine I came in contract with a Nurse from Chicago who was currently working here in NYC at temporary COVID hospitals. She was one of thousands of out of state nurses who came to help through the pandemic. Given their hours and need to limit exposure outside of work, they struggled to get even basic necessities, both for themselves and their patients. With help from friends and family, I coordinated 2 separate drop offs of supplies: with items ranging from coffee, fruit and granola bars to board games, cards, books, magazines, etc. All donations went directly to those in need.
